Elena Méndez Knutson has 14 years of experience working with individuals ranging from 5 to 75 years old.

Elena completed her studies in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Venezuelan Association of Psychoanalysis. She studied her undergraduate degree in Psychology and majored in Clinical Psychology at the Universidad Catolica Andres Bello, Caracas Venezuela.

In the United States, Elena studied a Master's degree in Social Work with a specialization in Clinical Psychology at the University of Houston. Also in the United States, Elena has specialized in the Hispanic Latino immigrant and non-immigrant Spanish and English speaking population.

Elena has helped multiple individuals (multiple cases) overcome their mental health issues, which include depression, anxiety, different types of trauma, stress, psychosomatic disorders, social adjustment problems, mood problems, complex grief and even patients with psychosis and severe risk.

Throughout her career, she has provided crisis intervention in clinics, health foundations and psychosocial services. She also serves the family and also uses play, art, music and bibliotherapy as forms of intervention with children, adolescents and older adults.

Elena has a humanistic and social orientation. She incorporates strategies from the psychodynamic approach briefly, values neuroscience, and embraces an integrative health approach. She integrates her practice with innovative therapeutic approaches and modalities such as motivational interviewing, problem-solving approaches, interventions based on interpersonal relationships, (TBRI Trust Based Relational Intervention) and cognitive techniques that strengthen self, self-control, and self-care.
